Love you forever

As you watch your baby grow and their terrible twos continue into terrible threes and then turn into fussy fours….your discipline measures also progress from almost non-existent to mild and then to fairly serious. Of course, punishment of your little one is not for the faint-hearted!! You do have your moments of weakness especially when you look at their innocent faces! (an expression that can give all child actors a run for their money!!) Once you’re done with the time-out followed by an apology, and you feel you deserve a pat on your back for not giving in…..you look at your sleeping child at night and you feel “What kind of a monster have I turned into”!!! Believe me, it’s the most horrible feeling in the world!!

Continuing my sentimental streak, I found a book that consoles every parent at such a moment – “Love you forever” by Robert Munsch and illustrated by Sheila Mcgraw. The cover page carries a picture of an adorable little boy who’s all set to throw his mommy’s watch into the toilet!! The book follows this boy into his pre-teens, teenage years, and finally as an adult. At whatever stage he’s at, for his mom, he’ll always be her baby!! The most poignant moment in the book comes at the end when this grown-up baby is seen holding his aged mommy and singing the same song back to her “ I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, As long as I’m living, my Mommy you’ll be”!! Not sure if your baby gets it, but sure to cause a lump in your throat!

  1. The feeling post you being hard on your child certainly fetches goodies for the child :-) for sure in abhay's case!

Also the kids know very well how to make you feel guilty the moment you give in isn't it?
